It is inhabited by millions of organisms: bacteria, viruses, fungi, and mites, which vary according to body area, pH, and sebum production.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>An Ecosystem That Protects microorganisms live in the intestine and interact with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>metabolism,<\/li>\n<li>nutrient absorption,<\/li>\n<li>vitamin production,<\/li>\n<li>regulation of the immune system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How the Modern Diet Alters the Microbiota<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Western diet \u2014 rich in sugars and fats and poor in fiber \u2014 promotes bacterial strains
