MMP®

Drug Microinfusion into the Scalp – Aesthetic Medicine

MMP® (Microinfusion of Drugs with Micropump) is an aesthetic medicine treatment for the scalp indicated to counter hair loss and improve scalp quality.

Through controlled microinfusions, it allows the direct administration of active substances into the dermis, close to the hair follicles, increasing therapeutic effectiveness compared to traditional topical treatments.

The technique acts on the follicular microenvironment, promotes stimulation of the hair bulb, and supports the biological processes involved in hair regrowth. It is indicated for both men and women experiencing thinning hair or early-stage alopecia.

MMP® (Microinfusão de Medicamentos na Pele) is an intradermal microinfusion technique that uses a micropump device with calibrated microneedles to deliver small amounts of medication directly into the scalp.

In the field of aesthetic medicine, the treatment allows:

  • improved bioavailability of active ingredients
  • uniform and controlled distribution
  • reduced systemic absorption
  • enhanced biological response of the follicle

Direct administration into the target area allows high local concentrations with a favorable safety profile.

MMP® for the scalp is indicated in cases of:

  • male and female androgenetic alopecia
  • diffuse hair thinning
  • hair miniaturization
  • loss of hair density
  • maintenance of results after other trichological therapies

The treatment is particularly useful in the early stages of hair loss, when the follicle is still vital.

Clinical studies show a progressive improvement in hair density and diameter, with a reduction in hair loss already visible within the first weeks.

The MMP® device performs microinjections regulated in depth, speed, and quantity of medication delivered, ensuring precision and uniformity.

The session lasts approximately 20 minutes. Discomfort is generally mild and temporary.

After the treatment, the following may occur:

  • mild redness
  • a sensation of warmth
  • slight local sensitivity

These effects resolve spontaneously within a short time and do not require interruption of normal daily activities.

At the Dermacademy Institute, the MMP® treatment is preceded by a specialist evaluation of the scalp, including analysis of the follicular condition and the definition of a personalized therapeutic plan.

Microinfusion may be integrated with other aesthetic medicine protocols for hair treatment, according to the patient’s clinical characteristics and aesthetic improvement goals.

Cost per session: €220 (VAT excluded).

What Is Alopecia?

Alopecia is a condition characterized by partial or complete hair loss on the scalp. It may appear as progressive thinning or as localized areas without hair. It is not a single disease, but rather a group of clinical conditions that can be temporary or permanent, depending on the health of the hair follicle.

What Causes Alopecia

The causes of alopecia vary according to the specific type. The most common form is androgenetic alopecia, which is linked to genetic and hormonal factors. There are also autoimmune forms, such as alopecia areata, as well as hair loss related to stress, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, or drug therapies. A specialist evaluation is essential to identify the cause and determine the most appropriate treatment.

What Is Hair Loss

Hair loss is an evolving form of hair loss characterized by progressive thinning of the scalp. In most cases, it is linked to androgenetic alopecia, a condition in which hair follicles miniaturize over time, producing thinner and more fragile hair until it eventually disappears. Hair loss can develop gradually and is more common in men, although it also affects women, especially with advancing age.

What Causes Hair Loss

Hair loss is mainly caused by a combination of genetic and hormonal factors. Sensitivity to testosterone derivatives (DHT) leads to a progressive weakening of the hair follicles, shortening the hair growth phase. Additional contributing factors may include chronic stress, endocrine imbalances, and environmental influences, but hereditary predisposition remains the most significant factor in the progression of hair thinning.
