Warts and Genital Warts

Preventing and Treating HPV Virus Manifestations

Warts and genital warts may appear to be minor conditions, but their impact on health and well-being should not be underestimated. Both are caused by the HPV virus (Human Papillomavirus), which can remain latent or manifest itself through skin and mucosal growths. Early diagnosis and treatment with a specialist approach are essential to prevent complications and recurrences.

The skin, with its protective and adaptive role, is a unique and extraordinary organ, capable of defending us against numerous external factors. However, it can sometimes become the site of viral infections, some of which are particularly widespread. Among these, warts and genital warts stand out for their frequency and for the possibility of being easily confused, despite being two distinct conditions with specific characteristics and transmission methods that make them unique.

Prevention plays a fundamental role in limiting the risk of infection from the viruses responsible for warts and genital warts, helping to avoid complications and recurrences. Adopting proper hygiene practices, such as avoiding the sharing of towels, nail care tools, or other personal items, is an essential first step.

It is also important to pay particular attention in humid public environments such as swimming pools, changing rooms, and gyms, by using slippers or appropriate footwear to reduce exposure to the virus.
The use of condoms is a useful precautionary measure to reduce the risk of HPV transmission, although it does not guarantee complete protection. Finally, vaccination against the Human Papillomavirus, especially recommended for young people, represents an effective preventive tool to reduce the incidence of HPV infections, helping to protect the health of the skin and mucous membranes.

Warts and genital warts are caused by certain strains of the HPV virus, which can be transmitted:

  • Through direct contact: via skin lesions or the shared use of personal items such as towels, scissors, or nail files.
  • Through sexual transmission: in the case of genital warts, transmission mainly occurs through unprotected sexual intercourse.

Although some people’s immune systems are able to fight the virus without visible manifestations, in other cases the infection appears with growths that require medical treatment.

At the Dermacademy Institute, the treatment of warts and genital warts always begins with an accurate diagnosis. This allows us to plan a personalized approach tailored to the type and condition of the lesions. In cases of genital warts, it is also recommended that the partner be involved in both the diagnostic and therapeutic phases to prevent mutual reinfection.

The goal of treatment is not only the removal of visible lesions, but also the prevention of possible recurrences and complications.
