Why we publish our numbers
Public hospitals are legally required to publish their activity volumes. Private facilities are not. We choose to do it anyway, every year, because we believe every patient has the right to know where they are placing their trust.
Publishing our numbers means saying: this is how many patients chose us, this is what we did for them, and this is how much of our work we provided free of charge. It is not marketing: it is transparency. And transparency, in Italian healthcare, is still far too rare.

Online Support
Four thousand sixty-four vitiligo consultations in one year. One thousand six hundred fifty patients treated. More than two thousand five hundred free online consultations for those who needed support between visits.
This means more than 15 vitiligo consultations every working day. Three physicians dedicated exclusively to this condition, supported by nurses for the digital and documentation processes. Every consultation includes Wood’s lamp photodocumentation, comparison with previous images together with the patient, and therapeutic adjustments. The photographs are provided to the patient.
The Volume That Makes the Difference
An average physician sees 5–10 vitiligo patients per year. We care for 1,650. This means that every variation, every localization, every level of complexity, every age group — we have already seen it. Many times. Your case is not the first: it is one of the 1,650 treated this year.
The free online support provided to 1,008 vitiligo patients reflects the way we work: we do not simply see you four times a year and stop there. Between one consultation and the next, if you have a concern, a photo to share, or questions about dosages, we respond. Free of charge. Because adherence to the treatment protocol is built this way too.
Our Commitment to Patients
7,212
Free or Included Services
4,562
Free Online Support
2,650
Free Consultations
A private institute providing more than 7,000 free services per year is not the norm in Italy: nearly 4 out of 10 non-surgical services are offered free of charge. The 2,650 free consultations (follow-up dermatology visits shortly after the first consultation, consultations for severe diseases, or mole check-ups within 12 months of mole mapping) and the 393 free mole follow-up visits represent our concrete commitment to patients who require more frequent dermatological care or who suffer from severe conditions.
Added to this are the 4,562 free online support consultations: personalized responses to concerns, photographs, and dosage-related questions.
As for surgery, the 1,219 surgical services classified as free correspond to post-operative follow-up visits, which are always included within the treatment pathway.
38.7%
Nearly 4 out of 10 services we provide are free of charge. This is not a marketing strategy.
It is our way of understanding medicine.
Surgical Activity
2,156
Total surgical procedures
587
Outpatient procedures
396
Histological examinations
2,156 surgical procedures performed in one year, including 587 outpatient procedures and 346 surgical excisions. Every suspicious nevus that is removed is submitted for histological examination: 396 histological examinations were performed during the year. The 1,219 post-operative follow-up consultations are always included in the surgical pathway, because follow-up care is an integral part of treatment.
13 Melanomas Identified
13
Melanomas identified at an early stage
Thirteen early diagnoses. Thirteen treatment pathways started in time.
Among the 1,102 specialist mole mapping consultations, the 393 free follow-up visits, and the 346 surgical excisions, 154 melanocytic nevi were removed for further investigation or preventive purposes. Of these, 13 were diagnosed as melanomas following histological examination.
Melanoma diagnosed in this way has a 5-year survival rate of over 95%. When diagnosed at an advanced stage, that number drops dramatically. Every mole mapping we perform, every free follow-up consultation we provide, is an opportunity to identify something that should not be there. This year, that opportunity made a difference for 13 people.
Not all the numbers in this report are large. This one is small. But it is the most important.
Where Our Patients Come From
Of the 4,020 patients who entrusted us with their care this year, 2,221 were new patients: people who chose Dermacademy for the first time. Knowing where they come from tells something important about who we are and what we represent.
2,221
New patients during the year
From Pisa, Tuscany, all across Italy, and abroad
40.5%
Comes from outside Tuscany or from abroad
901
New patients from outside Tuscany and from abroad
| Origin | New Patients | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| Province of Pisa | 875 | 39.4% |
| Rest of Tuscany | 445 | 20.0% |
| Outside the region (other Italian regions) | 780 | 35.1% |
| Abroad | 121 | 5.4% |
| Total new patients | 2,221 | 100% |
The most significant figure: 40.5% of new patients — 901 people — chose to come to Pisa from outside Tuscany or from abroad. People do not travel from Milan, Naples, Sicily, or Germany for an ordinary dermatology consultation. They do it when they have searched for a long time, tried other paths, and believe they have finally found the right place.
For those living in Pisa or Tuscany, Dermacademy is a local point of reference. For those coming from elsewhere, it is a conscious and informed choice. In both cases, the numbers show that the ImmunoNova protocol works regardless of distance: 95% of the treatment takes place at the patient’s home. Patients come to Pisa four times a year, for 20-minute consultations. Everything else is managed in your own city, within your own life and schedule.
For Those Considering Us from Outside the Region
If you are reading this from Milan, Rome, Naples, or any other city: you are not the first.
This year, 780 people from across Italy made the same choice. And 121 came from abroad. The protocol is designed to work remotely. The journey is worth it: the numbers say so, and so do the patients who return.
What These Numbers Mean for You
If You Have Vitiligo
They mean that when you walk into our clinic, you are not an experiment. You are one of the 1,650 vitiligo patients we treated this year. Your case, however unique, falls within a level of experience that no other center in Italy can claim for this condition. Your physician has already seen your pattern, your localization, your age group, and your comorbidities. Hundreds of times.
If You Are Deciding
Where to Go
They mean that you can compare. Ask your dermatologist how many vitiligo patients they treat each year. Ask whether they have a dedicated team or manage everything alone. Ask whether they publish their numbers. Numbers are not everything, but they are the most honest starting point that exists.
If You Are a Physician
They mean that Dermacademy is a high-volume referral center focused on a specific condition. With 4,064 vitiligo consultations per year, volume generates experience, experience refines protocols, and refined protocols produce results.
If You Are a Taxpayer
They mean that there is a private healthcare model that works: accessible, transparent, with nearly 40% of its activity provided free of charge. A model that delivers clinical results at a per-patient cost equal to 5–15% of the cost of ruxolitinib covered by the National Health Service. We are not a burden on the system: we are an alternative that helps reduce costs.
